Directory source and attribution

ToolPick's directory is a searchable index of external self-hosted software destinations. The records are kept separate from ToolPick's native browser tools and its editorial software profiles.

License and change notice

The source dataset is distributed under the CC BY-SA 3.0 Unported license. ToolPick preserves the source attribution and links to the original license and author list for the dataset.

ToolPick normalizes field names, adds a destination check receipt, and excludes archived, duplicate, non-HTTPS, unavailable, unresolved, and existing ToolPick entries. Descriptions remain dataset-sourced.

How destination checks work

  • ToolPick keeps only HTTPS official destination URLs with a reachable 2xx or 3xx response at check time.
  • Checks use HEAD first and use a single normal GET fallback only when a server returns 405 or 501.
  • 403, 429, login destinations, unavailable links, non-HTTPS links, archived rows, and unresolved checks are excluded.
  • No destination response body is stored, and the check is not a claim about feature quality, price, security, or continued availability.

Self-hosted means the source dataset classifies the project as software that can be self-hosted. A card links outward to the official destination; it is not an embedded ToolPick execution environment.
