Inspect CSV without changing leading zeros
Check IDs, decimal formatting and quoted cells before importing an export. Your file is read locally and values remain text.
How to use this tool
- Upload or paste UTF-8 CSV
- Inspect the literal cells
- Download the original
Worked example: check the export before opening it
Choose Try CSV example in the inspector. This small synthetic export shows what is still in the original file.
| Original value | What to check |
|---|---|
0012 | The code keeps its leading zeros. |
12345678901234567890 | All 20 digits of the record ID remain text. |
003.00 | The amount keeps its original formatting. |
north, east | The quoted comma stays inside one cell. |
line one
line two | The quoted line break stays inside one cell. |
With the example loaded, choose Download synthetic CSV example to keep a copy or share it with a colleague. To inspect your own export, choose Reset, then upload an untouched UTF-8 file or paste its contents.
If another application already rewrote the file, this inspector cannot recover lost zeros or digits. Downloading it does not change spreadsheet import settings.

Ready for your next export
Keep this page for your next import or export check. Your file is not stored here. Try the sample to see how 0012 and 003.00 retain their formatting.

Need a shared data workflow?
A file inspection is useful before an import. Repeated imports and shared editing need a different set of checks.
Choose a repeatable data import workflow
A practical checklist for this kind of task. It does not inspect your input or recommend a purchase based on it.
Useful to know
Up to 1 MB, 5,000 rows and 100 columns. This is a read-only inspector, not a spreadsheet editor or a malformed-CSV repair tool.
Will this stop Excel or another spreadsheet changing my values?
This preview treats cells as text, so leading zeros stay visible. Opening the downloaded file in a different application may still change how it interprets or displays those values. This tool does not change that application's import settings.
What exactly does the download preserve?
For an uploaded UTF-8 CSV, the download preserves the original bytes, including its line endings. Pasted text downloads as UTF-8; it cannot preserve the bytes of a file you did not upload. Quoted commas and quoted line breaks stay inside their cells.
